Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well! Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding: What have the neighbourhood team been doing? - High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas -On 20.05, PCSO 6098 conducted a beat surgery at East Goscote Library, providing an opportunity to speak directly with local residents. During the session, a number of issues and concerns were discussed, and advice and reassurance were provided where needed. -On 20.05, Local officers have recently received concerns from the community regarding speeding on Barkby Road, Queniborough. In response, officers carried out targeted speed checks in the area today. A few drivers were found to be exceeding the speed limit and have been dealt with accordingly. We will continue to carry out patrols and enforcement where concerns are raised. Please remember that speed limits are in place to keep everyone safe, and we ask all road users to drive responsibly. - On 22.05, Our dedicated local officers were out on patrol when they discovered a vehicle parked on the road without valid tax or a valid MOT. To ensure the safety and compliance of our community, the vehicle was promptly seized. -On 23.05, PC 743 Jason, PC 1947 Dave, Police Volunteers Robbert and Pat, alongside PCSO 6174 Jon, took part in a successful Bike Register engagement event at King Lear’s Car Park, Watermead Country Park, Syston. This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area. Our Priorities We have received reports of groups of youths causing issues within NL61 area, especially in Syston and Thurmaston. In response, targeted high-visibility patrols have been carried out in identified hotspot areas during peak times, with officers engaging directly with young people to challenge behaviour and set clear expectations. Intelligence has been reviewed to identify repeat locations and nominals, with incidents monitored through neighbourhood tasking. A problem management plan is in place, and two main instigators have been identified as key perpetrators of the ASB. Neighbourhood officers are working closely with East Leicester officers to robustly manage these individuals and pursue appropriate enforcement options. Beat surgeries are taking place within the area to allow members of the public to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss ongoing issues. Partnership working continues with the local authority and youth ser vices, with proportionate escalation through ASB powers where thresholds are met, to reduce offending and provide reassurance to the community. There has been an increase in reports of theft from vehicles across the NL61 area. In response, targeted patrols have been conducted in identified hotspot areas, particularly during peak offending times. Officers have reviewed incident data to identify patterns, with CCTV and forensic opportunities explored where available. Engagement has taken place with affected residents to provide crime prevention advice, including securing vehicles and removing valuables. Beat surgeries are being held locally to allow members of the public to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss ongoing issues and preventative measures. This activity will continue through intelligence-led tasking, continued patrols and community engagement, alongside partnership working where appropriate, to reduce further offending and provide reassurance. Reports of increased shoplifitng have been received in the NL61 area. In response, targeted patrols have been conducted around affected retail premises, informed by incident data and peak offending times. Officers have engaged with store staff to gather intelligence, review CCTV where available and provide crime prevention advice. Repeat locations and nominals are being monitored through neighbourhood tasking. Beat surgeries are taking place within the area to allow members of the public and local businesses to raise concerns directly with officers and discuss ongoing issues. In addition, officers are working closely with the Safer Streets team to identify and tackle the highest harm offenders. Robust action is being taken to disrupt offending, with Community Behaviour Orders (CBOs) being actively considered and pursued where appropriate to reduce repeat shoplift ing and provide reassurance.
